Nkwocha Congratulates African Queen Oshoala
Former Super Falcons striker Perpetua Nkwocha has congratulated Asisat Oshoala for equaling her feat by winning her fourth African Women’s Player of The Year award.
Oshoala claimed her fourth crown on Tuesday evening in Egypt, beating competition from Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout and Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa.
The Falcons striker had 351 votes, 30 more that Nchout, who placed second, while Kgatlana got 247 votes to place third.
She had earlier claimed the award in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
Nkwocha in a post on her Instagram page, said she was delighted Oshoala was following her footsteps.
“I remember vividly when you were asked in an interview who you looked up to as a young star and you called my name and I smile because I’ve seen you play,” she wrote on Instagram.
What do you do if Messi says he look up to you? Congratulations star girl. Make and break the records girl, the world at your feet.”
Nkwocha was part of the Falcons squad that won the African title in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014.
She claimed the Africa Women’s Player of the Year award four times during that period, claiming the 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011.
She also had 80 goals in 99 appearances for the Falcons.
